Qingdao is famous for its six beaches. June to September is the main season for swimming. The Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao is nearest to Third Beach, which is known for being quiet and peaceful. Closer to the train station is Sixth Beach, which is home to the Zhan Qiao Pier and the Huilan Pavilion.

About 30 minutes by boat from Qingdao is Huang Dao Beach, which is both quiet and clean. The ferry leaves from the Qingdao local ferry terminal to the west of the train station.
