Currency

A 12% VAT tax applies to all food, shopping and hotel purchases in the Philippines. In addition, a 0.75% local government tax applies to purchases in Lapu-Lapu City. Local government taxes varies per city.
Tipping
A service charge of 10% is usually added to hotel and restaurant bills. If not, a 10% tip is appropriate for waiters.

Dress
A lightweight t-shirt and shorts or jeans are appropriate for daily wear. Light jackets or windbreakers are good to have during rain storms or on occasional cool period. For formal occasions, men wear coat and tie or a traditional Barong Tagalog, tailored slacks and leather shoes. Women often wear cocktail dresses with a light shawl.
